Synopsis

Senior Marci Hartley's normal high school life is upended when she witnesses violence next door and steps in to protect a little girl named Annie from her stepfather. Confused and frightened, Marci is at first only vaguely aware of a greater danger that awakens to engulf the lives of her friends, her family, and Annie. Complicating matters are her growing feelings for Jeff, a rebellious skater boy from the classy part of town, in whom she places her trust.

Marci navigates the waters of her life in a lakeside New Hampshire town during the mid 1980s amid growing darkness. Whether roller skating to her job at the corner soda shop or hanging out with friends at the local arcade, Marci struggles with confusing maternal urges while forging a fast-developing romance with Jeff. As Marci's days become haunted by the presence of two ghostly girls and strange blue butterflies which portend danger, Marci is forced to question what she knows about herself and her own past.

Will Marci survive what hunts her from the shadows? All that is certain is that she is willing to give her life for those she loves.

From the author...

Shine Through Night began as a short story entitled Boardwalk written some years back. That short story centered on a chance meeting between Marci and Jeff on the lakeside boardwalk that features prominently in Shine Through Night. Primarily a love story, Boardwalk delved into Marci's feelings and her growth as a young woman. The essence of who Marci is, and her strength of character, form the heart of Shine Through Night. I hope you enjoy spending time with Marci as much as I did in writing her.
